Relief (Charity) is one of the three Great Principles of Scottish Freemasonry as such our local lodges practice charity within their local communities. The 'Active in the Community' grants provide the Foundation with an opportunity to support and encourage them in their charitable work.
For example: If a lodge raises $500 for an gible charity or incorporated not-for-profit organisation, they can apply to the Foundation to match that donation with its own contribution of $500.
Scottish Masonic lodges within the District may apply for a matching 'Active in the Community' grant of up to $2,000pa for not-for-profit / charitable organisations of their choice that fall within the criteria of the Foundation. 'Active in the Community' grants are awarded four times a year and effectively doubles the individual lodges masonic gift within the community.
NB: Please note that the 'Active in the Community' grants are awarded at the discretion of the Board. These grants are provided to encourage local lodges to be more active in their community and as such the board will take into account the efforts gone to in raising the funds.

The SMCFWA Grants & Awards sub-committee considers applications for 'Active in the Community' Grants four (4) times a year, the deadlines for which are:
- 31st January for consideration at the February meeting.
- 30th April for consideration at the May meeting.
- 31st July for consideration at the August meeting.
- 30th September for consideration at the October meeting.

What does the lodge have to do to apply for support? Lodges are encouraged to conduct local research to help identify worthy organisations for consideration. Local organisations are also invited to contact the Foundation with regards to these grants, in which case we will forward the information to the relevant lodge for consideration.
Once a decision has been made about who to support the lodge can then make an application to the Foundation.
Applications can be submitted by mail or email and should:
