Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) Brigadoon Centre is a voluntary, nonprofit organisation that provides opportunities for people with Disabilities and special needs to enjoy safe, healthy, stimulating, therapeutic horse-related activities.
The Scottish Masonic Charitable Foundation of Western Australia was originally approached by the centre to help purchase a new pony which would enable them to continue their good work within the community. The Foundation was more than happy to assist and RDA Brigadoon now has a new member of the herd 'Ballykissangle' (Bally K). The foundation is continuing its support of the centre and assisting them with their horse welfare programs to ensure all RDA Brigadoon horses are cared for in order to continue providing the unique therapy to those in need within the community.
"There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man."
Bro. Winston Churchill
Since our involvement with RDA Brigadoon we have had the pleasure of being invited out to the centre on numerous occasions, one of which was to meet Bally K, after this visit one of our Brothers, Peter McLean and his wife Maxine requested that the funds raised in honor of Peter by his fellow brethren at Lodge Kilwinning and the Scottish Masonic Charitable Foundation of WA be donated to RDA Brigadoon to allow them to build a more accessible path from their club house to the foot on the mounting ramp for those in wheel-chairs. The path now bears a memorial plaque in honor of Peter who sadly passed away at the end of 2009 due to a tumour on the brain.
